Privacy policy

This page explains what playthesims.online stores about you, why, and for how long. It's a non-commercial fan project. We collect as little as the game needs.

What we store and why

  • Your account: login, password stored as a one-way hash (nobody can read it), optional e-mail, your Sim profile (face, traits, bio, age, gender, mood), the invite code you signed up with and the sign-up date. We need these to run your account and the game (performance of a contract, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
  • E-mail and a new password: we use the e-mail in your account only when you ask for a new password: we send it a one-time link to set one, valid for 1 hour. No newsletters (performance of a contract).
  • Your game saves: snapshots of your game, kept on the server for your account until you start over or delete your account.
  • Game stats and achievements: how long and on which days you play, at what time of day, on a computer or a phone, how many saves, the achievements you unlock and the families from your game (the names, faces and Simoleons of your Sims, read from your save). Only you see them, in your profile. They go when you delete your account (performance of a contract).
  • Playing now: while you're in the game, the site sends a short signal about once a minute. We keep only the time of the last one, with your account, and delete it after about a day. We use it only to count how many people are playing right now - the site shows just the number, never who (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
  • Phone as gamepad: when you pair a phone with your game, the server keeps the pairing code and the connection details the two devices exchange (including their addresses in your home network) while the pairing lasts, and - only if the devices can't connect directly - the gamepad's moves and taps for up to 2 minutes. It's all deleted when you disconnect (performance of a contract).
  • The closed beta waitlist: your e-mail, the language you chose and the time you agreed. We use them only to send you a confirmation of your sign-up right away and an invite code later (consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). We delete them when you ask us to, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.
  • Security: your IP address together with the type of action (for example a login or sign-up attempt). We use it only to block spam and password guessing and delete it automatically after about 3 days (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Cookies and browser storage

  • One cookie, ts1_auth, keeps you logged in (up to 90 days). It's required for logging in, so we don't ask for consent.
  • Your browser keeps your language choice (ts1-lang), a copy of your game save (so the game starts faster) and a few small notes for the site, for example that it already showed you the save tip and which achievements it has announced. You can clear them in your browser settings at any time.
  • No advertising, no analytics, no trackers.

Other companies

  • Hosting: exone.pl (Poland) - the site runs on its server and the data above is stored there.
  • E-mail: back.pl - hosts our mailbox and delivers our e-mails (sign-up confirmations, invite codes, new password links).
  • Discord and buycoffee.to - only if you click a link to them; their own rules apply there.

Your rights

You can ask for access to your data, a correction, deletion, restriction or a copy, and you can object to processing. You can delete your account yourself in Account settings: the profile and the game saves go with it. To leave the waitlist, write to legal@playthesims.online. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in Poland: the President of UODO).
